The event will introduce a collaboration aiming to preserve African languages and open up access to scientific information in South Africa. This event forms part of the SADiLaR, Wikipedia and PanSALB collaborative project to advance the use of African Languages, especially on Wikipedia. SWiP-project for short.
The event will also touch on themes related to Open Access, culture preservation, language development.
The event is targeted at the broader community interested in contributing to growing access to scientific knowledge in all official languages of South Africa.
A non-exhaustive list of potential participants includes: academic staff across all faculties, professional support staff at universities, students across all faculties, anyone from the broader public with an interest in contributing to Wikipedia in their home language.
A 4.5-hour session which will include panel discussions followed by a question-and-answer and breakout groups.
