South African data sources: opportunities and challenges

Abstract

This talk will briefly discuss my experience with access to data within the healthcare sector and the opportunities collaboration, digitisation and digitalisation bring to research within the field.

Bio

Hanél Duvenage is a part-time research assistant and research project coordinator at Sefako Makgatho Health Sciences University (SMU) and the research and development manager at Safe Surgery SA NPC. She holds a particular interest in the application of data science and bioinformatics to facilitate medical research. Hanél holds two MSc degrees - one in Medicine (Molecular Nutrition and Bioinformatics), obtained from Örebro University, Sweden, and one in Nutrition, obtained from the University of Pretoria, South Africa.
